Job Title: SEMH teaching assistant
Teaching Assistant, Inclusion Unit, Bath - January start
Axcis Education is looking for a teaching assistant to join a small unit in Bath that caters to students who are disenfranchised with their education. This role is to start in the New Year and will be open ended depending on the success of the role, and will also be full time. As this is in a pupil referral unit, we are looking for someone who is really resilient and not afraid of a challenge as there will most certainly be challenging behaviour as part of the job.
Most of these students will no doubt suffer from some of form of SEMH and will have low self confidence in their learning ability or low self esteem due to difficult family/home life. So not only are we looking for someone who can hold their own to any tough behaviours but also be a cheer leader in a journey of rediscovery in their education. Most students will have the ability there - but often will not try simply because they don't think can do it. The goal here is to get them back into their main school.
If you are looking for challenge but really want to make a real difference to young lives that need someone to believe in them again - this may be just the job for you.
The ideal candidate will have;
- Experience working with children of all ages and ideally within a school environment and has a proven track record in helping them achieve their goals
- Experience working with those with special needs and learning difficulties, but especially in mental health hurdles.
- Relevant qualifications and/or training such as ABA or Team Teach (not essential, but desirable)
- A can do attitude and willingness to help a school in anyway they can
- An enhanced DBS certificate on the update service (if you don't have one, we can help you apply for one)
- Approachable and empathetic personality that children can really latch onto
