Job Title: PMLD Secondary Teaching Assistant
Axcis Education is recruiting on behalf of a special school in the Cheadle area for teaching assistants experienced in working with PMLD children aged between 11 and 19. This would be a full time long term position working between 8:30 and 15:30 with very high potential for a permanent role for the successful candidate. This position would involve working with a range of children with profound and multiple learning difficulties aged between 11 and 19 on either a 1-1 or 2-1 basis. Some children also exhibit challenging behaviour. You must have prior experience working with PMLD to be considered for this role and must be prepared to provide personal care. The role is based in a highly regarded special school that was rated ‘outstanding’ by OFSTED in its latest inspection with particular note given to the pride that staff feel working here. The successful candidate would be working in small class sizes of 4-6 pupils with support from teachers and other teaching assistants. The school has fantastic facilities onsite, including a hydrotherapy pool, multiple sensory rooms for the pupils to use and an audiology clinic. The school has a large car park on site and bus links less than 5 minutes walk away. The nearest train station is a 30 minute walk. To be considered for this role, candidates must have prior experience working with children with PMLD, whether in a school or care setting, and be prepared to provide personal care. Knowledge of British sign language is desired but is not essential as the school offers training in this area. Familiarity with manual handling is also desirable. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a school with incredible facilities that puts the pupils’ achievements at the centre of everything they do.
