Axcis are currently looking for a KS2 Teacher to work in year 5 at a mainstream primary school in Droylsden, Tameside. This role is to cover a maternity leave that starts in January to cover s maternity leave however; the school. The class you will be working with has 28 students within the class 9 of which have EHCP with a further 4 pending. The school also expect another little boy to be joining the class who has non-verbal autism and will have 1:1 support. The class will need a teacher who is engaging, intuitive and can think quickly on their feet when a lesson plan doesn’t go as planned. The school also fully supports a child led way of teaching with the head believing there should be lots of discussion and activities at all times. As this is year 1 you will also have some knowledge of the EYFS curriculum with some children yet unable to fully access the full year 1 curriculum at the stage and due to COVID the school has decided to gradually transition these children away this slowly up until Christmas.
This is a mainstream school with a higher than usual intake of SEND children. The school is in a culturally diverse part of Tameside and has a number of challenging children. The school has been praised for how they are able to support their SEND children and which include ASD and MLD. The school has recently upskilled a number of its staff to be team teach trained and will be looking to upskill the rest this coming academic year. Each class room has at least 1 level 3 teaching assistant and the school also employs a number of HLTA to cover absence and PPA. This is to ensure consistency for the children.
For this role the school would like to attract a candidate with experience of teaching in a ASD unit or somebody with a strong ASD back ground. You with have QTS and will have been teaching for a minimum of 1 years experience of teaching in KS2 or upper KS1, the school will also consider applicants who have secondary experience and are looking to work in Primary.
