This autism unit has been built to support the special educational needs of the attached mainstream school. The senior leadership team and governors have made the decision to expand the unit due to the high demand for a primary autism specialist provision in the area. Their aim is support other schools in the area offering training, support and educational health care plan application advice. Due to this the unit already has a high number of staff meaning a high staff to pupil ratio. Due to this staff is sometimes shared with the mainstream school to support short term absence. Currently there is a large state of the art sensory room as well as brand new IT suit with a large number of tablets and interactive tables available for use. The school is located close to public transport and is set back off the main road. There is limited car parking space however this is something they are hoping to address over the next few months.
For this role you will have been teaching within a primary school for at least 1 academic year. The school are happy to see candidates that are primary school teachers have an interest in working in alternative provision. However, some experience of working with children with special educational needs is required.
